Welcome Back to Seaside Park!

Celebrating our 130th year!

Seaside Park was created in 1893 as a place for families to gather during the summer
and enjoy all the benefits that Cape Cod had to offer. From its humble beginnings of
a few seasonal cottages and Little Beach, it has developed into a little slice of paradise
for over 200 families to enjoy with their family, friends and neighbors year round.
Welcome to the many new families who have purchased homes on “The Aves” recently,
and welcome back to all the families who have been enjoying Seaside Park for many
years, and for some many generations.
This summer we are planning many exciting events: Art in the Park, July 4th Parade, and
the Neighborhood Picnic; check out the calendar inside this newsletter for dates
and times of all these summer events. You will also find inside an update on Halls
Creek and a breakdown of SPIA, Inc., its role in Seaside Park, and the benefits of
membership.
The first general meeting will be June 24th at 9:30am under the tent at Little Beach.
Tables will be set up to collect dues and register your kayaks and dinghies after the
meeting. We will also be selling Seaside Park hats, T-shirts, etc. so be sure to bring
your checkbook/cash with you!
Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting on the 24th!

All the best,

Save Halls Creek – Make a Pledge Now

Hello to All,

It was great to see everyone who attended the SPIA Winter Cocktail Party last month. The turnout was great with close to 60 people stopping by to enjoy great food and great neighbors. The Halls Creek Preservation Fund committee members Jim Walsh and Dan Serpico gave an update on Halls Creek Preservation fundraising efforts that are taking place to help fund the project to dredge our estuary. A few important questions were asked I wanted to share with the SPIA community.

Where We Stand – Fundraising

This project is a group effort between Hyannisport Golf Club, and residents of Seaside Park, Squaw Island and Green Dunes. As of right now, close to $600,000 has been donated or pledged toward the dredging project from these groups. To note, Hyannisport Golf Club has donated in excess of $100,000 toward the Halls Creek Preservation Fund and a separate initiative to replenish Squaw Island barrier beach after recent storms. They have also pledged to donate more. Several residents of Squaw Island have made significant donations and have also pledged to donate more. We are in open discussion with Green Dunes residents and are hoping to have pledges from them soon. This is truly a group effort and all neighbors, not just those in Seaside Park are fully vested in this project.

How SPIA Residents Can Help – How Much to Give

Everyone is in a different financial situation when it comes to charitable donations. Halls Creek is a 501(c) so any donation you make is tax deductible. Each resident should consider how much Hall’s Creek and Little Beach means to you and your family, both in the pleasure value of using it and the financial value it has on your property. Every home in Seaside Park has deeded rights to the beach and surrounding common area. This means you are one of several owners of this land. If you have viewed Real Estate listings in Seaside Park you will see a few pictures of the houses and many pictures of our beach, picnic area and parking area. This a huge selling point and adds significant value to our properties.

With current donations/pledges at $600,000 we have a ways to go to meet our $2,000,000 goal to fund the cost of dredging and protect the Halls Creek estuary. We are asking residents to pledge approximately 2% of the assessed value of your property. CLICK HERE to search and view your assessed value. Obviously, we realize that some can afford to give more while this may be a stretch for others. This suggestion is simply a target to help guide everyone with their pledge. We would like to collect pledges now so we are prepared to begin negotiations with dredging companies and to be sure that we have raised the funds to begin the dredging once the permits are secured. We are confident that if we meet our goal by April 2023, the dredging will begin in 2024.

Make a Pledge Now

Please make your pledge by email or phone to one of the committee members listed below and we will send you a letter confirming your pledge. Once we have raised the money necessary to proceed, we will then ask that you fulfill the pledge.

In Closing – Together We Can Save Halls Creek!

The one thing we all can agree on is that we have to act now! Please give as generously as possible. While Halls Creek is a very special place to all of us it is in danger of dying off if we don’t get this dredging project done as soon as possible.

See the below photo of Stewarts Creek off of Ocean Street in Hyannis. It has the same flushing issue as Halls Creek only much worse. It has severely silted in and the out flow has been diminished. CLICK HERE to read more about these problems in Halls Creek and why we need to act now!

Please feel free to contact me or anyone on the board.

All the best,

Charlie Cormay

No Dogs at Little Beach

I want to remind everyone of a situation becoming a problem at the beach.  There are no dogs allowed at the beach between May 15th and September 15th per:  Town of Barnstable Beach Use Restrictions 401 A – 5 Article F (No animals or pets are allowed, at any time, in any bathing beach (including parking areas) from May 15 through September 15).
These guidelines are set by the Town of Barnstable and include all beaches in Town.  We will be enforcing this regulation more proactively going forward.  Over the 4th of July weekend, the water was tested in Hall’s Creek and bacteria levels where reported as high, we where warned that a second failing test would have caused the Town to order the closing of the beach for an indefinite period of time.  Fortunately, subsequent testing came back within acceptable levels of bacteria and thus the beach was not ordered to be closed.  This is a warning to us that during the summer month, high bacteria levels can be common and are exacerbated by animal waste.  We do not want to have to tell homeowners and their guests that they cannot use the beach due to high bacteria levels, and I’m sure that those who rent their homes do not want to have to tell their renters that the beach is closed indefinitely.  All of us work to keep our beach and public areas as clean and well manicured as possible.  Please be a good neighbor and follow the rules and pass on to your guests and renters that dogs are not allowed at the beach at anytime between May 15-September 15.  We all want to enjoy the beach and common areas so do you part to make them comfortable to all residents and guests.
All the best,
Charlie Cormay

SPIA General Meeting

After much discussion, the Board of Directors decided to cancel this year’s neighborhood picnic scheduled for Saturday, August 8th.  Unfortunately the continued risk of spreading Covid-19 will make it impossible to hold this year’s event.  However, we will hold the SPIA general meeting at 9:30 am Saturday, August 8th at Little Beach.  We won’t have a tent so the meeting will be weather permitting.  We’ll set up chairs in sets of two socially distanced and all attendees will be asked to wear masks.  I will send out the agenda in the coming days.  Please try to attend if possible, but we understand those who feel uncomfortable being there (the minutes will be posted on the SPIA website).  We won’t have coffee or donuts, so bring your own coffee or beverage of choice.
